CONTINUUM
Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival 2010
The 2010 Festival is titled Continuum, recognising the importance of the western classical tradition in music as well as celebrating the latest in contemporary music research and innovation. The festival directors are Simon Ible, Director of Peninsula Arts and Eduardo R Miranda, Professor of Computer Music at the University of Plymouth.
Evelyn Glennie and the Ten Tors Orchestra conducted by Simon Ible will premiere a new Concerto for Percussion and String Orchestra composed by James Barrett. The performance of the new work entitled Toilers of the Elements is being hosted by Plymouth City Council in the city's Guildhall on Saturday 27 February 2010 and is the headline event of the 2010 Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival.
A significant element of the Festival is the hosting of the PRISMA conference. PRISMA (Pedagogia e Ricerca Internazionale sui Sistemi Musicali Assistiti) is an international group of composers working with computer-generated composition who meet annually. The group comprises about 20 composers from different countries. The 2010 conference will be in Plymouth during the Festival and will include a concert premiering three new works for horn trio by Örjan Sandred (Sweden), Hans Tutschku (Germany) and Jacopo Baboni Schilingi (Italy).
Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival is organised and promoted in association with the University of Plymouth's Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR).
