Contemporary Notations

Eduardo R. Miranda MSc, PhD is a composer and Professor in Computer Music at the University of Plymouth, and Head of the University’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR). He is one of the creators of the Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival, which he co-directs with Simon Ible. Miranda studied composition in South America and Europe and his music is devoted to the quest for new forms of musical expression, independent of fashion and commercial tendencies.

His academic background reflects his commitment to basing his compositions on coherent musicology and cutting edge technology. He is a published research scientist. Before joining the University of Plymouth in 2003, he was Associate Professor at the American University of Paris and served as research scientist at SONY Computer Science Laboratory Paris, where he developed research into the evolution of speech and human communication. He is the author of the books Composing Music with Computers (Focal Press, 2001) and Computer Sound Design (Focal Press, 2002, 2nd Ed.).

His latest solo CD, Mother Tongue, is published by Sargasso.
